This is my children decorating our second tree! We had ordered a tree (last minute again!) and gone to collect it from the shop on The 23rd ofDecember…only for the very apologetic shopkeeper to tell us he accidentally SOLD it. The very last one. Disaster!

We managed to get a very nice tree from somewhere else. Unfortunately, it was tiny. Two foot tall! My children were very sad.

Just as we put it up, the shopkeeper called to say he had sourced another one. Hooray! Disaster diverted! This is the photo of my now happy children decorating it!

This picture was taken when we were living on the island of Dominica a few years ago. It was so different to what we were used to, but probably the most memorable we’ve had! We found the tree in the flat we were staying in & that was the only decorations we had. The girls had no big presents but everything they had was very special. Instead of having an orange they had an apple as they were a real luxury out there as was chocolate. It made us realise even more that Christmas is not about what you have or surrounded by but spending time with the people you love.

    Single Mum,
    to two little boys,
    happy I had them,
    loved all the noise,
    but it could be lonely,
when the boys went to bed,
    no-one around me,
    to hear anything I said.
    Then Christmas 2006,
    was browsing the net,
saw a pic of a fella,
the best one I’d seen yet!
    I sent him a message,
    thought to meself “Why not!”
    Forgot all about it,
it had to be worth a shot!
    He messaged me back,
    that very same hour,
    conversation just flowed,
The next week I got flowers!
Then after two weeks of talking,
I had a bad day at work,
    Christmas always so busy,
and my Boss was a jerk!
    It was way past bedtime,
when I messaged my new mate,
    he was in bed,
    he never stayed up late.
    He made me feel better,
    told me not to worry,
    the next thing I knew,
I woke up in a hurry!
    I’d fallen asleep chatting,
and he must have hung up!
It was now 2 in the morning,
    And I felt so rough.
    Then, I heard a tapping,
    upon my front door!
    It was my fella!!!
    And I thought ‘Cor!’
    He’d travelled through the night,
    four trains he’d caught!
just to come and see & hug me
    with chocolates he’d bought!
He had to leave asap though,
as he had work the next day,
    and his Essex home was
    four hours away!
I had never felt as loved,
    as I did right then,
    and now we’ve been together,
    for Christmases’ Ten!
    I’ve never felt happier,
now with two girls of our own,
My Family is the one gift
    I’ve always wanted to own!

Last Christmas, Our little Shihtzu Dog (Doogie Age 14) Went missing! All of us was searching, calling and running around frantically for the best part of 40 mins. As he’s a little hard of hearing he never responded to our calls. Eventually my Son, found him curled up underneath the Christmas Tree, Completely oblivious to the pandemonium that had been going on around him! Also the radiator was just above him, so he had found a nice, warm, cosy spot to get away from it all!!

I remember my first visit to see Father Christmas – I was just three years old. We went to Lewis’s Store in Leeds and it was magical. The photograph shows a rather drab and too skinny post war Santa (we had rationing until 1954) but to me he was wonderful ; I was awestruck!

Many Christmases ago, like Scrooge, my Festive Spirit had waned,
Children grown, left my cosy ‘robins’ nest, relationship with other family strained!
I felt the ‘season of goodwill’, for me a lonely time, felt depressed!
Until, my son announced there was to be a ‘patter of tiny ‘hooves”.. then, I felt blessed!
To cut a very long story short…the news brought us all back together!!
New life , new beginnings, Christmas now a time to treasure!
Now, I’ve got double the love, twin ‘presents’ for Nan to spoil, and, adore!
Like new growth on the ‘tree’ of life… making mine ‘sparkle, and, shine, who could want more!
This Christmas, we will be all gathered, filled with glistening baubles, and, glee!!
Thanks to 2 special babies, we’re now a very Festive family!!!

My son and his girlfriend live and work in Zermatt so our main Christmas feast takes place in November. Friends and family gather for a full traditional meal with secret Santa presents. The tree goes up for one day and the house is filled with carols and christmas aromas.

(Needless to say that this annual tradition would be loads easier with a ready lit tree.)

    Thank you for doing this.
I’ve had lots of lovely Christmas moments, but today I wanted to show you this one. It’s of my little girl (who was 4 when it was taken last Christmas) writing out her own Christmas cards for the first time. She really wanted to try by herself, I love the concentration on her face. She was pleased as punch afterwards! She can’t wait to write them again this year. It’s special to me for many reasons, one being she was a very reluctant writer. But now she loves it, it seems to have kindled her interest in writing so I’m grateful for that.

This is a photo from last Christmas, taking this gorgeous little darling to our local garden centre in Chester to meet Father Christmas for the first time. We had such a blast, and it was so good to make her feel special at a time when she probably felt a little pushed out (new baby sister!)
Can’t wait to take them both this year!
