Although many of us can’t imagine a world where there is no internet shopping, it wasn’t too long ago when we had no internet at all. In a matteer of decades, we have made huge steps forwards in the world of technology, which now allows us to access a massive variety of goods and services from the comfort of our homes.
How much do we spend online?
In the UK alone, we spent upwards of £243 billion online in 2020. It’s even predicted that by 2023, online shopping will make up a whopping 22% of all global retail sales. This boost comes as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, which forced people to stay at home and temporarily made highstreets close for months at a time.
The UK’s Christmas spend
We spend even more during Christmas that we do across the rest of the year. £32.26 billion is spent online across the Christmas season in the UK – and we spend more on Christmas overall than any other European country on Christmas trees, presents, decorations and much more.
