- Tree Buying Guide
Buying your Christmas tree can very quickly go from an exciting experience to a harrowing chore. With so many options to choose, you might eventually find them all merging into a blurry mess in your mind. That’s why we’ve put together this step-by-step guide to help you find the perfect artificial Christmas tree for you…
Step 1: Size up your Options
Before you even think about which style of tree you like or how many baubles can fit on each branch, you need to decide on a suitable size for your tree. In order to make this decision, you should figure out exactly where you want to place your tree and how much space you have. Do you want a showstopper to light up your front room? Or are you looking for a secondary tree, perhaps a fibre optic tree, providing Christmas ambience to your dining room? Either way, the height and diameter of your tree should be the first thing on your mind.
If you’re looking to fill your space with the tallest tree that will fit, we’d recommend leaving at least 6 inches between the top of the tree and the ceiling. For example, for a standard 8-9 foot ceiling, we would suggest purchasing a 7.5 foot tree. Following the rule of 6 inches should leave plenty of room for a tree topper.
Unlike the height of your tree, deciding on the ideal diameter of your tree is not as simple. Measure the space you’re looking to fill. If you’re unsure of whether your space would best suit a full tree or a slim tree, simply compare your space measurement with some examples from our full and slim tree collections. You’ll find the diameter information under “Specifications” on each product. Bear in mind that the diameter varies between all trees, but this will give you some indication of the kind at which you should be looking.
Step 2: Quality Assurance
When choosing the perfect tree for you, there are a few questions you need to ask yourself:
- How long do I want this tree to last?
- How realistic do I want my tree to look?
- How much am I willing to spend?
You can base your browsing on the third question, if you wish. simply filter our selection of trees to show what’s available for your budget range.
However, if you’re looking for something completely indistinguishable to the real thing, you should first be able to identify a high-quality artificial Christmas tree.
To make this process easier, we’ve split our luxury “Natural Needle” trees here. The main difference is in the foliage. Most artificial Christmas trees are made from PVC materials.
These thin sheets are strong, flexible and inexpensive, They are used for both the primary foliage of a tree, or as filler for the more luxury trees, to make them look more full.
Our luxury “Natural Needle” trees are made with injection-moulded PE as the primary foliage. This method produces a much more realistic tree, in terms of both look and feel. It’s also a lot more likely to last for several years. This way, you have all the benefits of a real Christmas tree, without the hassle and expense of having to replace your tree every year.
Step 3: Pre-lit or Unlit?
This one is a easier question to answer. If decorating your tree with lights is all part of the Christmas experience for you, and you wouldn’t let anyone take that away from you, then you obviously want to buy an unlit Christmas tree and a set of Christmas tree lights. This option does allow for some creativity here, as well as giving you the option to try out some of our brand new App-controlled lights. Check out the features below:
However, if you find the process of putting lights on your tree to be a bit of a hassle and are looking for something more convenient, a pre-lit tree is for you. It will save both time and trouble, as well as minimizing the probability of messy wires.
If you’ve decided to purchase a pre-lit tree, the next question is what colour lights do you want? Christmas Trees and Lights offer a variety of pre-lit trees, from warm white and ice white to blue and multi-coloured. Taking a browse through our pre-lit trees category should give you a good feel for the different options, but if you’re still unsure on your colour preference, our dual colour warm white & multi-coloured tree will give you the option of never having to pick a favourite colour!
